It's been a rough few weeks for Mark Schmidt.

The St. Bonaventure men's basketball head coach tore his Achilles in practice on Dec. 19, but has continued to coach the team despite being condemned to a rolling scooter.

On Saturday, the Bonnies defeated UMass 69-55. After the game, the handshake proved a little more treacherous than Schmidt likely expected.

It seems as though Schmidt is OK. That's great, albeit unsurprising news -- he finished coaching that Dec. 19 practice while sitting in a chair following the injury, then boarded the team bus to Binghamton, N.Y., and coached the Bonnies to a 69-51 road win the following day while wearing a protective boot on the foot.

According to the team, Schmidt has already underwent surgery and will continue coaching as he recovers.
