Cubs to leave Kyle Schwarber home run ball on video board for playoff run

Wrigley Field’s controversial video boards have only been up for one season, but they already have worked their way into the lore of the historic franchise thanks to Kyle Schwarber’s moon shot of a home run in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Wrigley Field’s controversial video boards have only been up for one season, but they already have worked their way into the lore of the historic franchise thanks to Kyle Schwarber’s moon shot of a home run in Game 4 of the NLDS.

The team has verified that the ball seen sitting on top of the rightfield video board is, in fact, the seventh-inning blast hit by the rookie. It also plans to leave it atop the structure for the remainder of the playoff run, according to the Chicago Tribune.

To make sure no fans or foes take the ball off its new perch high above the field, the team will place a plexiglass case over the ball and have a security guard escort anyone doing maintenance atop the board.

The solo home run was Schwarber’s third of the postseason and helped lift the Cubs to a 6–4 victory, clinching a spot in the NLCS for Chicago for the first time since 2003.
