Lions' Young, Jaguars' Shorts top waiver wire targets after Week 8

Now Young is attracting attention for a different reason: He looks like a breakout fantasy star.

With Nate Burleson out for the year, Young stepped in Sunday as the No. 2 receiver in Detroit and had a huge game, catching all nine passes thrown his way for 100 yards and two touchdowns. With Calvin Johnson absent early in games and not finding the end zone, Young is getting more looks: He's been targeted 17 times the last two weeks.

Johnson is going to keep attracting defensive attention, which means Young could continue to produce through the rest of the year. The Jaguars are a good matchup this week, too. Young is only owned in 40 percent of fantasy leagues, so if you're in need of a receiver go pick him up.

• Josh Freeman, Buccaneers (60 percent owned): Get him while you can. Freeman has produced three big weeks in a row, including a 19-for-36, 262-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Vikings last Thursday. With the Raiders, Chargers and Panthers coming up, Freeman could certainly have three more nice games in store. Right now he looks like a good start in all three weeks.

• Russell Wilson, Seahawks (15 percent): He rebounded from a poor performance against the 49ers to post good numbers against the Lions Sunday, going 25-for-35, for 236 yards, two touchdowns and one pick. (He also rushed for nine yards.) He has a good matchup against Minnesota this week, and his following two games against the Jets and Dolphins are not horrible plays if you're stuck.

• Nick Foles (one percent): He put up gaudy numbers against backups in the preseason, but Philly's offense hasn't exactly been reliable this season. If Andy Reid makes a switch and Foles starts Monday night, he could be a good play against the Saints' porous secondary.

• Jonathan Dwyer, Steelers (46 percent): Making his second NFL start, Dwyer rushed for 107 yards on just 17 carries in Pittsburgh's win over the Redskins. The Steelers also have Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman -- both of whom were out Sunday -- but Dwyer is a young guy who's produced two consecutive big games. Expect Pittsburgh to keep riding him.

• Daryl Richardson, Rams (37 percent): The Patriots blew out St. Louis in London, and Richardson didn't do much, rushing seven times for 53 yards. (He also caught four passes for negative-three yards, amazingly enough.) Steven Jackson is disgruntled in St. Louis, according to multiple reports, so Richardson could get more of a role as the season progresses. Jackson carried seven times for just 23 yards Sunday. The two are splitting carries right now, limiting both of their value, but Richardson is the most likely to emerge. There's also a chance Jackson could be dealt.

• Cecil Shorts, Jaguars (nine percent): Shorts has delivered two solid fantasy performances in a row after catching eight passes for 116 yards against the Packers Sunday. He was targeted 12 times after getting 10 looks the week before. The Lions aren't a tremendous matchup, but grab Shorts regardless. He's a No. 1 wide receiver, and he's sitting on the waiver wire in most leagues. If you need a wideout and Young isn't available, go get Shorts.

• Brandon LaFell, Panthers (20 percent): That's two productive fantasy weeks in a row for the Carolina wideout. He caught three passes for 88 yards on four targets after scoring the previous week (and catching four passes for 53 yards on eight targets). That's not a ton of looks, but the Panthers face the Redskins next, and they've allowed big games to most wideouts this year.

• Danny Amendola, Rams (58 percent): Amendola was a PPR monster before getting hurt in Week 5, catching 31 passes through the first four weeks of the season. If he's been dropped in your league, grab him. Amendola should be back after the Rams' Week 9 bye, which means this is the time to pounce.

• Jeremy Kerley, Jets (59 percent): He was held to just five catches for 59 yards in the Jets' loss to the Dolphins Sunday, but was targeted 11 times for the second straight game. New York faces Seattle after this week's bye.

• Greg Olsen, Panthers (56 percent): Expect Olsen to finally get going this week against the Redskins, one of the worst teams in the league against tight ends. Olsen also has decent matchups against the Broncos and Buccaneers the next two weeks and could have a nice three-game stretch.

• Shayne Graham, Texans (30 percent): The Texans are off their bye and are scoring a lot this year. They aren't having problems getting it into the end zone, and there may be games where Graham mainly gets extra-point attempts. Still, facing the Bills, Bears, Jaguars, Lions and Titans is a great five-game stretch for a fantasy kicker. If Graham is available in your league and your kicker is underperforming, pick him up.

• San Diego Chargers (29 percent): If you need a one-week bye filler, this is the week to start the Chargers, as they play Kansas City, the worst offense in the league this year by almost every measure, including fantasy points allowed. The Chargers had a huge game at Arrowhead earlier this year, forcing six turnovers and returning a pick for a touchdown.

Denver Broncos (30 percent): Denver didn't do much against the Saints' high-powered offense Sunday night, managing just one pick and one sack. But the Broncos now face a Bengals team that's giving up top-10 fantasy points to opposing defenses. San Diego's a better play this week, but the Broncos have a great November slate (Cincy, Carolina, San Diego and Kansas City), making them a better longterm add.
