The Bag: Lohla Sport revs up for summer

Women’s apparel brand makes grid for Indianapolis 500; V1 Game app dials in improvement; Cobra Golf's limited-edition Volition RadSpeed drivers are essence of Memorial Day

Welcome, Memorial Day.

What an ideal time to hopefully hit the reset button with a long weekend of golf and some longstanding American traditions, like cookouts and the Indianapolis 500.

But also, let's not forget the real reason for Memorial Day — to honor those fallen U.S. military heroes who sacrificed their lives so that we can enjoy such pleasures.

Lohla Sport: Laurie

LOHLA SPORT: Laurie
Memorial Day weekend typically marks the unofficial start to summer and Lohla Sport, a women’s golf / lifestyle apparel brand that launched earlier this year, is getting off to a fast start.

As cars roll off the starting grid of Sunday’s 105th Indianapolis 500, the No. 25 car of Stefan Wilson, starting 28th, will feature the Lohla Sport logo on its Andretti Autosport Honda. The unique match of a women’s apparel brand with open-wheel racing was brokered by Don Cusick, founder of Cusick Motorsports and a Lohla Sport shareholder.

“Among the fans and partners involved with the Indianapolis 500, we have a huge amount of golf enthusiasts, so I’m excited to get them exposed to what Lohla Sport is all about,” said Wilson a few weeks ago.

Created by Lisa O’Hurley, a former Golf Channel and Golfino executive, Lohla Sport apparel fuses trendy “European designs with Los Angeles flair” and is already in roughly 100 golf shops nationally.

What you need to know:
> Lohla Sport offers a range of tops, pants, skorts and outerwear that it describes as a “European design for the American sporting lifestyle.”
> The Laurie quarter-zip top with a chevron stripe on the chest and sleeve has a nice finish-line look to the design.
> The top is available in navy and guava, and in eight sizes (XXS-XXL). > The Laurie retails for $140.

V1 Game

V1 SPORTS: V1 Game
Remember when on-course GPS tracking was all the rage? While it still serves a valuable purpose, it’s sort of passé compared to other features, like analytics, that are being made available. The V1 Game app is ideal for tracking a round and offering tips on what to do during and after a round to improve.

What you need to know:
> The app features Virtual Caddie, which factors in such variables as wind direction and club history, to offer a club selection and Virtual Coach, which breaks down various statistical categories and suggests areas of improvement.
> Stats tracked include strokes gained, shot patterns, club distances, scoring, greens in regulation, fairways in regulation, scrambling, putts per green, putts per GIR and estimated handicap.
> The app has a $119 annual subscription service.

LE Volition RadSpeed

COBRA GOLF: LE Volition RadSpeed Drivers
These are not just ordinary drivers, but limited-edition drivers as part of Cobra Golf’s Volition America Golf Collection. And they benefit a good cause, the Folds of Honor Foundation.

What you need to know:
> Available in two models — RadSpeed and RadSpeed XB.
> Clubs feature a specially designed red, white and blue paint scheme — a bleach-white carbon crown, a blue-milled face and red accents on sole — and paired with a Project X Hzrdus Smoke RDX blue shaft. Club also features a black and red Lamkin Crossline Connect grip.
> The RadSpeed is available in a 9-degree loft (plus / minus 1.5 degrees) with S and X flexes in right-hand only. The XB version is available in 10.5 degree, S and R flexes in right-hand only.
> The drivers retail for $549 and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation, which supports the families of American military veterans.
