2023 RBC Canadian Open Full Field: Rory McIlroy Returns to Defend in Toronto

Ten of the top 30 in the world will tee it up one week before the U.S. Open.

One week before the U.S. Open, our neighbors to the north take the stage for their national championship.

Run by Golf Canada and the PGA Tour, the Canadian Open has been played since 1904 and is the third-oldest on the PGA Tour schedule behind the British Open and U.S. Open. It was not played during World War I, World War II or the COVID-19 pandemic.

That pandemic hiatus lasted two years and when the RBC Canadian Open returned in 2022, it became one of the most memorable events of the year in sports.

Attention was split in golf, as the new LIV Golf debuted the same week in London. There was substantial curiosity around the Saudi-backed league, but come Sunday afternoon in America and St. George's Golf and Country Club in Ontario, fans were treated to a great final round on the PGA Tour.

Before massive galleries that were happy to have live golf again, Rory McIlroy successfully defended his 2019 title with an 8-under 62 in the final round that included eight birdies in his first 12 holes. Tony Finau and Justin Thomas each shot 6 under while trying to catch McIlroy in the final group.

McIlroy returns again, this year to Oakdale Golf and Country Club, along with nine others in the top 30 of the world (eight of the top 30 SI World Golf Rankings)
