Golf News: PGA Tour opens cash-advance window for players

With season suspended into late May because of coronavirus, Tour offers one-time cash payments based on projected FedEx Cup standings, Golf Digest reports

Offered: By the PGA Tour, one-time cash advances on projected FedEx Cup money, Golf Digest’s Daniel Rapaport reported, citing a Tour email obtained by the magazine. Under the policy, Tour players ranked Nos. 1-150 in the standings when coronavirus suspended the season March 12 can take up to 50 percent of their projected FedEx Cup bonus, with a maximum payment of $100,000. Any advance payment from the $60 million pot would be deducted from a player’s bonus at the end of the season, according to the report. Caddies can seek compensation from the Caddie Benevolent Fund. Because of the pandemic, the PGA Tour has suspended its season into late May, including the first two major championships, the Masters and the PGA. The next scheduled event is the Charles Schwab Challenge, which is set for May 21-24 at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
