European Tour shelves 3 more tournaments, citing coronavirus
Added: By the European Tour to its list of scrapped tournaments, three summertime events, the tour announced Friday, citing the ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The BMW International Open on June 25-28 in Munich, Germany, and the French Open on July 2-5 in Guyancourt, France, were canceled, and the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open on July 9-12 in North Berwick, Scotland, was postponed, officials said. The Scottish Open is one of eight big-money Rolex Series events. With the announcement, the European Tour has canceled or postponed 15 tournaments dating to mid-March. The tour’s next scheduled event will be the Betfred British Masters on July 30-Aug. 2. Keith Pelley, the tour’s chief executive officer, recently alerted players to brace for a “radically different” tour and for coronavirus having “a profound impact on our tour financially,” according to a memo obtained by The Telegraph newspaper of London.
