Golf news: PGA Tour's Korn Ferry Tour developmental tour resets 2020 schedule after coronavirus shortens season
Reset: By the Korn Ferry Tour, the rest of the 2020 season on the developmental tour, officials announced Monday, citing the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The move came two weeks after the PGA Tour announced its revised schedule, which included the postponement or cancellation of 13 events from the original 49-tournament lineup. Because of the shortened season, the Korn Ferry Tour will not promote its top 25 players to the PGA Tour, per custom. Instead, the top 10 at the end of the season will be granted access into all remaining PGA Tour events for the 2020-21 season. The Korn Ferry Tour’s new schedule will bridge two seasons and conclude with PGA Tour status for the KFT’s top 25 after the 2021 WinCo Foods Portland Open. Twenty-five more PGA Tour cards will be awarded after the 2021 Korn Ferry Tour finals. With the KFT’s revised schedule, the season will restart with two consecutive events near the PGA Tour’s headquarters in northeast Florida. The Korn Ferry Challenge will be played June 11-14 at TPC Sawgrass’ Dye’s Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, followed by an unnamed event June 17-20 at World Golf Village’s The King & The Bear Course in St. Augustine. The first four tournaments will be closed to the public as officials monitor coronavirus. The developmental tour scheduled 17 tournaments from mid-June into early October, ending with the Orange County National Championship on Oct. 8-11 at Orange County National’s Panther Lake course in Winter Garden, Fla.
