Golf news: 2020 Colonial: PGA Tour tells players to start coronavirus testing

2 weeks before Tour’s return to competition, officials advise players to conduct home tests for coronavirus before they enter the proposed ‘bubble’ at Fort Worth

Advised: By the PGA Tour, that participants in the Charles Schwab Challenge in two weeks begin preparations now for the Tour’s first competition since early March. In a memo to players cited in a report Wednesday by Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard, players have been advised to start adhering to the various coronavirus-testing procedures outlined recently. The Tour’s goal when the season restarts June 11 at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, is to create a “bubble” in which players, caddies and tournament officials will operate, thus reducing the likelihood of the virus’ transmission. Players will be tested upon arrival in Fort Worth and encouraged to stay in one of the Tour’s four designated hotels during the week, according to the report. The PGA Tour suspended play March 12 after the first round of the Players Championship.
