Muirfield Village’s leadoff event for PGA Tour doubleheader gets a name

Workday Charity Open will be 1st of 2 consecutive tournaments to be played next month at Jack Nicklaus’ club in Dublin, Ohio

Named: By the PGA Tour, the inaugural Workday Charity Open, the first of two tournaments to be played in consecutive weeks next month at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The event, to be played July 9-12 at the club built by Jack Nicklaus near his boyhood hometown of Columbus, fills the slot on the PGA Tour’s revised schedule vacated by the John Deere Classic, which was canceled because of issues related to the coronavirus pandemic. The Workday Charity Classic will feature a 156-player field competing for a $6.2 million purse. It will precede the annual Memorial Tournament, to be played July 16-19 at Muirfield Village. According to a report by Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard, who cites a PGA Tour memo distributed to players, the Workday event will feature shorter rough, slower green speeds to allow for different hole locations and different teeing grounds to help change the on-course traffic pattern ahead of the Memorial. The Memorial is expected to be the first PGA Tour event with spectators on the grounds.
