PGA Tour to launch series for touring-pro diaspora, report says

According to Golf Channel, an 8-event series with $100,000-plus purses will give players from tours in Canada, Latin America and China places to compete after coronavirus decimates developmental tours’ schedules

Reported: By Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine, that the PGA Tour will conduct a series of eight tournaments for members of its lower-level developmental tours – in Canada, Latin America and China – to compete after the coronavirus pandemic dramatically altered schedules this year. In the report, which cites an email obtained by Golf Channel, the series will feature 54-hole tournaments of 144 players, with purses of at least $100,000 and a winner’s share $16,000 or more. The fields will consist of exempt players on the Mackenzie, Latinoamerica and China tours sponsored by the PGA Tour, plus some Korn Ferry Tour players. The series will begin Aug. 5-7 at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, the first of three tournaments in Georgia, Romine reported. COVID-19 restrictions will be in force, including a ban on caddies. The schedule:

* Aug. 11-13: Echelon Golf Club, Alpharetta, Ga.
* Aug. 26-28: Callaway Gardens Resort, Pine Mountain, Ga.
* Sept. 1-3: Auburn University Club, Auburn, Ala.
* Week of Sept. 21: TBD in Florida
* Week of Sept. 28: TBD in Florida
* Oct. 7-9: The Club at Weston Hills, Weston, Fla.
* Week of Oct. 26: TBD
