PGA Tour will ban fans, pro-ams for rest of season, report says
Reported: By Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard, that the PGA Tour will play the rest of the season without spectators and forgo pro-am events. According to the report posted Saturday to GolfChannel.com, which cited multiple unnamed sources, the ban on fans will extend for the next nine tournaments on the revised schedule, through the Sept. 4-7 Tour Championship. An announcement was expected to be made Monday in concert with the individual tournaments. No decision has been made for the 2020-21 season, which begins Sept. 10 at the Safeway Open in Napa, Calif. This week’s Memorial Tournament, the sixth event since the season restarted last month after a three-month suspension because of the coronavirus pandemic, originally was to have marked the return of spectators. However, Memorial officials reversed themselves last week amid the health concerns of hosting thousands of spectators – even at reduced numbers and in an open area such as a golf course – at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
