USGA sets 11 final-qualifying sites for U.S. Open

Spots in Japan, Canada and U.S. will finalize field for 121st U.S. Open at Torrey Pines as traditional qualifying returns to event

Announced: By theU.S. Golf Association, 11 final-qualifying sites for the 2021 U.S. Open. The 36-hole qualifiers, which will determine an undisclosed number of spots to complete the U.S. Open field, will be played on May 24 and June 7 in the U.S. and at two foreign sites. The 121st U.S. Open is scheduled for June 17-20 at Torrey Pines’ South Course in San Diego. The announcement represents a return to the traditional manner of qualifying for the U.S. Open. Last year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic all qualifying was canceled and the Open resorted to an invitational format. After the tournament was postponed from its usual mid-June dates to September, Bryson DeChambeau won in a six-stroke victory at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Local qualifying, which will be played over 18 holes at 108 sites in the U.S. and one in Canada, will be held April 26-May 18. The June 7 date allows PGA Tour players who will have competed in the Memorial Tournament on June 3-6 in Dublin, Ohio, to access a nearby qualifier. Also, the Ontario site will allow qualifying access ahead of the RBC Canadian Open in Toronto. The final-qualifying sites for the 2021 U.S. Open:
