Awarded: By the USGA, its 2024 U.S. Senior Open, to Newport (R.I.) Country Club, the association announced Tuesday in a news release. The dates will be June 27-30. Newport had been scheduled to host the 2020 U.S. Senior Open, but the tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tillinghast in 1923, hosted the inaugural U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur tournaments in 1895. The Havemeyer Trophy, named after club co-founder Theodore A. Havemeyer, is presented annually to the U.S. Amateur champion. This year’s U.S. Senior Open, which is part of the Champions Tour schedule, will be played July 8-11 at Omaha (Neb.) Country Club. Other future sites: Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., in 2022; and SentryWorld in Stevens Point, Wis., in 2023.
