Alex Cejka goes 2-for-5 on Champions Tour with Senior PGA title

German pulls away for 4-stroke victory at Senior PGA, his 2nd title in 5 career starts since becoming eligible for 50-and-older tour

Alex Cejka thrust himself into some select company among senior golfers with his victory Sunday in the Champions Tour's second major championship of the season.

With his four-stroke victory at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla., Cejka joined the late Arnold Palmer as the first golfer to win his first two starts in major championships on the 50-and-older tour. Cejka also became the first tour rookie to win two major two major titles since Jack Nicklaus in 1990.

Cejka shot 3-under 67 for an 8-under 272 total at Southern Hills.

Three weeks earlier, he also won the Champions Tour's first major event of the season, the Regions Tradition.

Cejka, who turned 50 on Dec. 2, is a native of the former Czechoslovakia who fled his communist homeland as a refugee at age 9 with his parents. They eventually settled in Munich, and he obtained citizenship in West Germany before the nation's unification with East Germany. Cejka won the 2015 Puerto Rico Open for his lone victory on the PGA Tour, and he is a four-time winner on the European Tour.

American Tim Petrovic shot 67 for a 4-under 276 total and second place. South Africa’s Retief Goosen (66) and South Korea’s K.J. Choi (68) shared third place at 3-under 277. (For scores, click here.)
