Fore! Things

1. Scottie Scheffler has now won six times in his last 27 events including twice this year.

2. Scheffler joined Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players to hold the Masters and Players titles at the same time.

3. Tom Hoge shot an opening-round 78 and thought he was going to miss the cut. He then shot a third-round 62, ended up tying for third and became the first player to go from 78 or worse to a top-five finish on the PGA Tour since Jose Maria Olazabal did it at the 2007 Players.

4. The Valspar Championship is in a tough spot on the schedule, following two designated events and preceding another in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Still, the tournament attracted Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose and defending champion Sam Burns. One thing that undoubtedly helped—and is going away in 2024—is the stipulation that the top players add three non-designated events.

Fore! More Things

1. Jon Rahm’s PGA Tour-leading streak of 25 consecutive made cuts ended when he withdrew from the Players Championship. The streak ended, but a WD due to illness is not counted as a “missed" cut.

2. Jerry Kelly grabbed a record previously held by Arnold Palmer when he made the cut at the Players Championship. Kelly, who was in the Players by virtue of his 2022 Senior Players title, became the oldest player in tournament history to make the cut at age 56. Palmer was 55 when he made the cut at the tournament in 1985.

3. LIV Golf has its second event of 2023 beginning Friday at The Gallery in Tucson, Ariz. It is the former home to the Tour’s WGC-Match Play event, which moved after the 2016 playing and went to Austin, Texas—where it will be played for the last time next week.

4. The first round of the Masters is 24 days away.
