Harris English Makes Push for U.S. Ryder Cup Team

Newly minted Travelers Championship winner vaults five spots to No. 8 on the latest United States Ryder points list.

Harris English moves up five spots to No. 8 on the United States Ryder Cup points list as a result of his Travelers Championship win on Sunday.

English, who finished third at the U.S. Open a week earlier, now sits two spots outside of the top six that automatically qualify for September’s matches at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisc.

"The Ryder Cup is where I want to play," English said. "I love Steve Stricker. I know he's the captain this year. That's what I miss about playing golf at University of Georgia. I miss that team atmosphere, and that's the pinnacle of our sport is to represent your country and to play in probably one of the biggest tournaments in the world.

"I still need to keep playing well and keep showing Strick that I deserve to be on the team, but looking forward to having a chance, and we'll see what happens."

English, 31, a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, has never made a Ryder or Presidents Cup team. He was a member of the 2011 U.S. Walker Cup team.

Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele are currently Nos. 1-6 on the points list. Patrick Reed is No. 7.

The top six players through the BMW Championship, the second FedEx Cup Playoff event, will automatically make the American squad for the Sept. 21-26 matches.

The remaining six players will be selected by U.S. captain Steve Stricker following the Tour Championship.
