Rochester, N.Y. — Jordan Spieth’s chances of completing the career grand slam at the 2023 PGA Championship appeared in doubt last week when the three-time major winner announced his withdrawal from the AT&T Byron Nelson, a highly anticipated home game for him in Dallas, Texas.

Spieth cited a left wrist injury as his reason for the WD, after he missed the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship by eight shots

Despite the injury, however, it appears that Spieth is making the trip up to Rochester, N.Y., where the PGA will be contested at Oak Hill Country Club.

“Over the weekend, I had severe pain in my left wrist and had doctors confirm an injury that requires rest and limited movement,” Spieth wrote in a statement released on his social media pages last week. “I’m focused on healing as quickly as possible and will have to evaluate my recovery week to week.”

It seems as though the former Masters champion is at least seeing positive trends in his recovery process, as CBS on-course commentator Colt Knost announced on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio that Spieth would be arriving in western New York on Monday evening.

“I can report, there are a lot of questions about Jordan Spieth, I did get permission: He is making the trip to Rochester tonight,” Knost said. “So it will be very interesting to see if he tees it up this week at the PGA Championship, he’s going for the career grand slam. I think there’s a lot of doubt with him not playing the Byron Nelson. Haven’t heard much from him throughout the week, but he will be making the trip. Will he be teeing it up on Thursday? That is to be determined.”

Spieth’s caddie, Michael Greller, was spotted at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport on Monday morning—another good sign for the Texan’s attendance.

If Spieth indeed tees it up on Thursday at Oak Hill, it will be his 11th appearance at the PGA Championship. His best finish came at the 2015 PGA at Whistling Straits, where he came in solo second behind Jason Day. He later finished in solo third at the 2019 PGA at Bethpage Black.
