Fore! Things

1. The European Ryder Cup team has won the last seven Ryder Cups played in Europe and 8 of the last 11 overall. The 16½ to 11½ victory was Europe’s 12th since all of Europe was added to the Great Britain & Ireland side in 1979. The U.S. has nine victories during that period and there has been one tie.

2. Max Homa, playing in his first Ryder Cup, was the best U.S. player with a 3-1-1 record.

Max Homa celebrates as he wins his singles match 1 up on the 18th green at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Max Homa was the top U.S. player in last week's losing effort in Rome.

3. Europe’s top three players—Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland—went a combined 9-2-3. McIlroy’s 4-1 record was his best showing in eight Ryder Cup appearances.

4. The U.S. was 1-7 in foursomes and lost the Ryder Cup by five points, meaning the competition was relatively close otherwise. The final margin was also the same margin after Friday.

Fore! More Things

1. The PGA Tour resumes its "FedEx Fall" schedule this week with the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss. The tournament is the second of seven events that will help determine 10 players who will qualify for the first two Signature events in 2024 following the Sentry. It also will determine the top 125 exempt players for the 2024 season. Among those in the field is Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg, coming off the Ryder Cup.

2. The DP World Tour’s schedule resumes with the Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, played over the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. European Ryder Cup players Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre are scheduled to compete.

3. The tournament also features four LIV Golf Players: Louis Oosthuizen, Peter Uihlein, Talor Gooch and Hudson Swafford—who has missed the entire year to date with an injury. They are eligible for invites because they either never were DP World Tour members or resigned membership before playing in a LIV event.

4. The start to the 2024 PGA Tour season at the Sentry begins in 94 days. And the first round of the Masters is 186 days away.
