Not so fast, whippersnappers
At age 37, Martin Laird hardly is ancient, but he is showing a little gray these days, and it had been 7½ years since he had won on the PGA Tour. Well, the gray hasn’t disappeared, but the losing streak is gone after the Scotsman won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, the first of two consecutive PGA Tour events in Las Vegas. With earlier victories by 40-somethings Stewart Cink and Sergio Garcia in the fall schedule, the veterans have hit the pause button for the dominance of the young emerging stars. “It’s been a while since my last one,” Laird said, “and you have some doubts about whether you’re going to get another one.” Co-hosts Bob Bubka and Jay Randolph Jr. break it down. The Grill Room guys also preview this week’s CJ Cup at Shadow Creek before conducting the feature interview with Dr. Bern Bernacki, the president of the Golf Heritage Society.
