THE REVIEW
Starter: This course is part of the Florida Historic Golf Trail.

Play because ...: It’s a unique layout — barely 5,700 yards from the tips — with some  elevation changes that are rare in Florida courses.

Takeaway: There’s no practice range and, though conditioning has improved in recent years, there’s still some rough spots. Do not read a lot into the 5,719 distance from the tips, the course is much more difficult than the yardage suggests.

THE COURSE | Scorecard
Best par 3: No. 17 [175 | 163 | 153 | 103 yards]
The longest of Mount Dora’s five short holes is also the most difficult of that bunch. This is the middle hole in a tough three-hole stretch to conclude the round.

Best par 4: No. 12 [398 | 355 | 348 | 302 yards]
This is Mount Dora’s signature hole and the only one that has water in play, which is on the downhill second shot. A pond short and right of the green creates a pretty hole, but also a challenging approach.

Best par 5: No. 6 [457 | 447 | 435 | 410 yards]
This is the second of successive par-5 holes and the No. 1 handicap hole. As is the case on many of the course's holes, No. 5 plays much longer because of a steep elevation change. There’s at least a two-club change on the second shot.
