Old Works' bones make for special play
From the remnants of historic copper smelting sites in remote Anaconda, Mont., Jack Nicklaus designed the delightful and demanding Old Works Golf Course, which features black slag-lined bunkers

From the remnants of historic copper smelting sites in remote Anaconda, Mont., Jack Nicklaus designed the Old Works Golf Course in the mid-1990s.
The course, which plays to a robust 7,705 yards, pays homage to its roots. The bunkers are filled with black slag, an abandoned 600-foot smelting stack can be seen from around the course, and old machinery is used as aesthetic design elements.
