Three Add Names To Iowa High School Football Record Books

The 2026 Iowa high school football season hasn't reached Week 1 yet, but we've already witnessed some incredible performances.

In fact, you might say record-book-worthy performances.

For Iowa Valley High School senior Nolan Kriegel, his name is already adorned on the history books thanks to an incredible three-year career entering the season.

Now, each time Kriegel steps foot on the field, he moves up the ladder.

Kriegel, a quarterback who doubles as one of the top rushers in the state, added five more touchdowns to his career mark for rushing, receiving and return scores. He has currently visited the end zone 117 times by one of those three forms, which places him fifth all-time in eight-player.

Lane Spieker, a former Anita-CAM star, holds the state’s career record at 150.

Nolan Kriegel Has Become A Touchdown Machine For Iowa Valley

Kriegel is second all-time for touchdowns in a game with 10, hitting the mark last year during a season in which he rushed for 43 touchdowns and threw 13 more.

As he prepares for a Week 1 matchup with Don Bosco in a key Top 10 tilt, Kriegel has thrown for 3,017 yards and 45 touchdowns while rushing for 5,450 yards and 108 touchdowns. He also has six receiving TDs and 245 yards while returning three kickoffs and one interception back for touchdowns.

His 5,450 rush yards place him sixth all-time, with Clayton Plowman of Adair-Casey first with 7,646 rushing yards. Kriegel is also tied for eighth with 47 rushing, receiving and return TDs in a season, which he accomplished in 2025.

Mack Murdock, Abram Decena Put On A Show

Despite it coming in a tough loss to Creston, Centerville’s quarterback-wide receiver duo of Mack Murdock and Abram Decena showed why they might be the best in the state.

Murdock threw for 490 yards, which places him tied for 18th all-time in Iowa high school football for 11-player. Decena, meanwhile, had 270 receiving yards, which tied him for the 36th-most in a single game in the state.

Last year, Murdock threw for 2,250 yards and 27 touchdowns, as Decena had 44 receptions for 771 yards and scored 11 times.

The Big Reds will look to get into the win column when they take on Knoxville this Friday night.
