MINNEAPOLIS — The No. 1 Maple Grove Crimson (28-2) defeated the No. 4 Lakeville North Panthers (19-11) 69-50 in the 2025 Minnesota (MSHSL) high school girls basketball state tournament Class 4A semifinals on Thursday at Williams Arena.

The matchup presented a challenge to both teams. Maple Grove is a small, fast team with a 5-foot-10 center. Lakeville North is a big team with a center at 6-foot-3 and a forward at 6-foot-2.

To win, one team needed to compensate for its weakness, and tonight it was Maple Grove.

“We had two very different styles on the floor,” Maple Grove head coach Mark Cook said. “Our ability to adapt to their style in the halfcourt really, really helped us.”

They adapted because senior Bella Hanna—the 5-foot-10 center—filled many roles for the Crimson. She finished with 15 points and five rebounds while guarding Lakeville North’s center, Sahara Wilson, who went 5-of-13 from the floor despite the size advantage.

“The way we defended down low was going to be something, and that speaks volumes to Bella,” Cook said.

She paid a price. She cramped while on her way back to the floor for the second half, and she spent some time lying behind the bench to get ready to play.

“Cut it off if you have to, we have to go play,” Cook said. “You would never have known had you not seen that.”

It felt good for Bella, who had been struggling with her offense recently. But even during those struggles, she adds value to the Crimson.

“If she’s not finishing, she’s finding the open person every time,” Jordan Ode, who finished with 30 points, said.

The win gives the Crimson their first ever berth in program history.

“For Christmas, all my daughter wanted was a basketball signed by these girls,” Cook said.
