Here are High School on SI’s Texas Football Player of the Week nominees for games played Aug. 20-21. Scroll down to read about this week’s list and cast your vote in the poll below.

Texas Football Player of the Week nominees

Correll Buckhalter Jr., Argyle Liberty Christian School

The son of the former NFL running back with the same name averaged 11.8 yards per carry in a Week 1 game against Midland Christian School. The K-State pledge ran 21 times for 247 yards and scored 3 times.

Leo Danze, New Braunfels John Paul II Catholic

The senior did a little bit of everything in a 56-0 win over San Antonio Somerset Academy on Aug. 21. He had 9 carries for 88 yards, scored 2 touchdowns and ran in a conversion. He had four tackles and a 43-yard interception return a score on defense

Chase Doran, Geneva School of Boerne

The junior had only two catches on Friday, but both went for touchdowns. He had a 48-yard score and a 24-yard touchdown in a 48-6 win over Hallettsville Sacred Heart.

Jaxon Franco, Midland Christian

In a shootout win over Argyle Liberty Christian, he completed 31 of 50 passes for 7 TDs and had a QB rating of 129.

Antonio Guevara, San Antonio Central Catholic

The Buttons got a big game from the senior in a 31-27 win over Austin Hyde Park on Aug. 21. He had 10 catches for 120 yards and scored twice. In addition, he had an 86-yard kickoff return that set up another score.

Derek Hershberger, Fort Worth Nolan Catholic

The Vikings dropped a close game to McKinney Christian Academy, 21-18, in Week 1. The senior safety recorded 11 tackles in the loss.

Nathan Kalmin, Houston The Emery/Weiner

The senior completed 9 of 15 passes for 190 yards and finished with 4 touchdown passes in a 48-32 win over Bellville Faith Academy on Thursday. Three of our four touchdowns went to Jacob Braun.

Brendan Osborne, Arlington Pantego Christian

The defensive tackle had 8 tackles, 4 TFL and 3 sacks for the Panthers in a Week 1 win against Colleyville Covenant School.

Broxon Potter, Amarillo San Jacinto Christian Academy

During a 51-6 win against Planview Classical Academy, Potter was 12-for-16 passing for 134 yards and 2 TDs. He added 141 yards on 5 carries and 2 more TDs and 2 interceptions playing defensive back.

Seth Shuler, San Antonio Cornerstone

He broke the single-game record for the school with 6 TD passes in a Week 1 win. He completed 15 of 17 passes for 305 yards.

Noah Tarrant, Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal

The El Paso Pebble Hills transfer had a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to help the Saints pull away early in a win over Dallas Parish Episcopal on Friday.

Jackson Walker, Grapevine Faith

He racked up 12 solo tackles and 14 total tackles in a game against Addison Trinity Christian. He also recovered a fumble and broke up a pass for the Lions.

Parker Woolley, Sugar Land Fort Bend Christian Academy

In a game against Houston St. Pius X, the senior had 2 catches for 43. yards and a touchdown. Playing in the secondary, he had 6 tackles, 1 pass breakup and 1 forced fumble.

High School on SI voting polls are meant to be a fun, lighthearted way for fans to show support for their favorite athletes and teams. Our goal is to celebrate all of the players featured, regardless of the vote totals. Sometimes one athlete will receive a very large number of votes — even thousands — and that’s okay! The polls are open to everyone and are simply a way to build excitement and community around high school sports. Unless we specifically announce otherwise, there are no prizes or official awards for winning. The real purpose is to highlight the great performances of every athlete included in the poll.
