Michael Anifantis named Monmouth Park racing director

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) Michael Anifantis has been named director of racing for Monmouth Park.

The track on the New Jersey shore announced the hiring on Thursday.

Anifantis, who is currently the racing secretary at Hialeah Park in Florida, replaces Mike Dempsey, who announced his retirement earlier this week. Anifantis was the Monmouth Park's assistant racing secretary last season.

Anifantis has served as the racing secretary at Calder in Florida, Remington Park in Oklahoma and assistant general manager/director of racing at Sun Ray Park in New Mexico. The 63-year-old has also served in various capacities at racetracks across the country, including Keeneland and Churchill Downs in Kentucky.
