In celebration of the 49ers’ 70th anniversary, the team is bringing to life some of the top moments in franchise history using augmented reality. By scanning each card using the 49ers’ official app, fans can relive moments from the team’s five Super Bowl victories, including The Catch from Dwight Clark, Jerry Rice’s record-setting touchdown, Steve Young’s famous scramble and Joe Montana’s championship-level cool.
The augmented reality platform Aurasma enables the video clips of those celebrated moments to appear on the card, including the drama that music from NFL Films provides. There are nine cards in each set, and every card triggers its own video.
So when the 49ers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, collectors might want to go outside the 49ers Team Store at Levi’s Stadium, where 2,000 of the cards are handed out before home games.
Even current 49ers players who have seen the augmented reality experience are wowed.
