Report: Seattle Mariners trade for Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia

The Seattle Mariners have acquired outfielder Chris Denorfia from the San Diego Padres for minor league pitcher Stephen Kohlscheen and outfielder Abraham Almonte.

The Seattle Mariners have acquired outfielder Chris Denorfia from the San Diego Padres, reports CBS Sports' Jon Heyman. Seattle sent minor league pitcher Stephen Kohlscheen and outfielder Abraham Almonte to San Diego. 

Denorfia is batting .242 with a .319 slugging percentage on the season. After setting a career high with 10 home runs last season, Denorfia has only hit one homer this year. The nine-year veteran has spent the last four and a half seasons with the Padres. 

For his career, Denorfia has a .275 batting average and .397 slugging percentage.

The Mariners are 55-52 and in third place in the AL West. The division's leader, the Oakland Athletics, made the first big splash of the trade deadline by trading outfielder Yoenis Cespedes for Boston Red Sox starter Jon Lester and outfielder Jonny Gomes.
