Last week, the 35-year-old received a cortisone injection in his right shoulder and Manager Matt Williams had said that Werth, an All-Star in 2009, "should be good to go" a few days after the shot.
Werth is coming off a hot July in which he was named NL Player of the Month, batting .279 with 12 homers and 63 RBI. The Nats are first in the NL East heading into Sunday's game.
