MLB denies Rays' protest of loss to Blue Jays

Major League Baseball denied the Tampa Bay Rays' protest of a loss against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday. 

The Rays filed the protest after Toronto manager John Gibbons appeared to lodge a challenge too late. Gibbons' challenge was upheld, and Rays outfielder Wil Meyers was called out on a pickoff by Blue Jays pitcher Mark Buehrle. Tampa Bay would go on to lose 5-4.

This year, MLB managers have the ability to request reviews of plays like tags and force plays for the first time. The new rules have generated controversy, and in April MLB changed the transfer rule, thanks in part to replay.
