Blue Jays LF Melky Cabrera out for season with broken pinkie
Blue Jays left fielder Melky Cabrera will miss the rest of the season with a fractured right pinkie finger, the team announced on Friday.
Cabrera was injured diving into first base in the third inning of Friday's 9-8 loss in Boston. He will have surgery to fix "an evulsion of the extensor tendon," according to the team. The 30-year-old walked with one out but was picked off first base by Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez to end the inning.
Cabrera stayed in the game until his spot in the lineup came up in the sixth. He was sent for an X-ray, which showed the fracture.

It was not immediately clear how long Cabrera will need to recover, but his season is over.
Cabrera, a 10-year veteran of the Yankees, Braves, Royals, Giants and Blue Jays, hit .301 with 16 homers and 73 RBIs in 139 games this season. An All-Star in 2012 for the Giants, Cabrera is a career .286 hitter with 88 homers and 520 RBIs. He will be a free agent after this season.
Colby Rasmus, who recently lost his center field job, will likely take Cabrera's place in left.
The Blue Jays (72-68) are five games back in the race for the second AL wild card spot.
