Derek Jeter was not in the New York Yankees lineup for Game 1 of a Friday doubleheader after being hit by a pitch on the left elbow Thursday night.

According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, the shortstop could play in the second game, but manager Joe Girardi said the elbow is "pretty sore."

Jeter's teammate, Chase Headley, was hit in the chin by a 96-mph fastball during Thursday's game. He had to get stitches and will be checked for a concussion.

Yankees' Brett Gardner could return to lineup on Friday

Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton sustained facial lacerations requiring stitches, multiple facial fractures & dental damage after he was hit in the face by a pitch on Thursday. Stanton, an MVP candidate, is likely out for the year.

The Yankees are four games behind in the race for an American League Wild Card spot.
