Giancarlo Stanton posts grisly before and after picture on Instagram after being struck in the face
Tuesday September 16th, 2014

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton posted a photo on Instagram showing his recovery from facial injuries sustained last Thursday. (Warning: The photo contains blood.)

Stanton wrote:

The Aftermath...Making huge progress!! Want to thank everyone who has played a part in my recovery process. Your kind messages, thoughts & prayers have meant the world to me. Pushing forward

Stanton was carted off the field after being hit in the face with a pitch. He "suffered facial lacerations requiring stitches, multiple facial fractures and dental damage," the Marlins said.

Stanton, who was writer Cliff Corcoran's frontrunner for NL MVP before the injury, is likely done for the season.
