Davis, West head umpire crews for wild-card games

NEW YORK (AP) Umpires Gerry Davis and Joe West will be the crew chiefs for the wild-card games this week.

Major League Baseball on Monday announced the assignments for the early-round matchups.

Davis has worked 122 postseason games, more than any other umpire. He'll handle the Oakland at Kansas City game Tuesday night, along with James Hoye, Dan Iassogna, Bill Miller, Todd Tichenor and Bill Welke.

West tops all active umpires with 37 years in the majors. He'll work San Francisco at Pittsburgh on Wednesday night with Doug Eddings, Paul Emmel, Andy Fletcher, Brian Gorman and Mark Wegner.

Ted Barrett will be in charge when the AL wild card visits the Los Angeles Angels in the division series Thursday. The crew includes Lance Barksdale, Chris Guccione, Paul Nauert, Jeff Nelson and Jim Reynolds.

Jeff Kellogg's crew for the Detroit-Baltimore series is Scott Barry, Dan Bellino, Fieldin Culbreth, Paul Schrieber and Jim Wolf.

Mike Winters will work the NL wild card at Washington series with Vic Carapazza, Laz Diaz, Tom Hallion, Brian Knight and Hunter Wendelstedt.

Dale Scott will be the crew chief for the St. Louis-Los Angeles Dodgers series with Eric Cooper, Rob Drake, Jerry Layne, Jerry Meals and Alan Porter.

Umpires Phil Cuzzi and Tim Timmons will work as the replay officials during the wild-card game. CB Bucknor, Chris Conroy, Ed Hickox and Brian O'Nora will be the replay umpires for the division series.
