Report: Marlins offer two-year, $20 million contract to 1B Adam LaRoche
The Miami Marlins have made a two-year, $20 million contract offer to free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche, reports the Miami Herald.
LaRoche spent the past four seasons with the Washington Nationals and hit .259 with an .817 OPS, 26 home runs and 92 RBI in 2014. The 35-year-old said near the end of the regular season that he didn't expect to be brought back by the Nationals.
LaRoche has also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks in his career, hitting 20-plus home runs in nine of his 11 seasons.
The Marlins' reported interest in LaRoche comes several days after the team agreed to a record 13-year, $325 million contract with young star Giancarlo Stanton.

Stanton agreed to receive just $15.5 million in combined salary over the next two seasons in order to give the Marlins more payroll flexibility in those years, leading to the offer to LaRoche.
According to the Herald, Miami has also expressed interest in free agent pitchers Jason Hammel, Justin Masterson and Wade Miley.
The Marlins went 77-85 last season and finished fourth in the National League East, marking the team's most wins and first non-last place finish since 2010.
