Probation for deliveryman in MLB drug case

MIAMI (AP) There will be no jail time for a self-described deliveryman for the South Florida clinic that provided performance-enhancing drugs to Major League Baseball players and other athletes.

A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced Christopher Engroba to two years on probation after prosecutors said he has cooperated extensively in the Biogenesis of America investigation. Engroba admitted in September to delivering testosterone and other substances to then-Biogenesis owner Anthony Bosch and others.

Bosch has also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing. The scandal resulted in MLB suspensions for 14 players, including a season-long ban imposed on New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez. Court records show Rodriguez admitted to investigators he used the prohibited substances.

Other Biogenesis figures have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial, including Rodriguez's cousin Yuri Sucart.
