Mets hire Roessler as assistant hitting coach

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Mets have hired Pat Roessler as their assistant hitting coach.

The Mets announced the move Thursday.

The 55-year-old Roessler was director of player development for the New York Yankees for the last 11 years. He also was the Yankees' hitting coordinator in 2005 and again in 2012-13, and was the Montreal Expos' hitting coach in 2000-01.

Roessler has worked as a hitting coach in the minors with Houston and Pittsburgh.

In October, the Mets hired Kevin Long as their hitting coach. He held the same job with the Yankees for the previous eight seasons.
