GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Free agent pitcher Brandon Beachy has agreed to a $2.75 million, one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who hope he can recover from his second Tommy John surgery.

The 28-year-old Beachy 14-11 with a 3.23 ERA with Atlanta from 2010-13. He missed last season after elbow surgery in March.

Beachy was leading the majors in ERA through 13 starts in 2012 before needing his first Tommy John surgery in June.

His deal, announced Saturday, includes a $3 million team option for 2016 that would have a $250,000 buyout if he has 10 or more innings this year. The option price could escalate based on 2015 starts to $3.5 million for one to four, $4 million for five to nine, $4.5 million for 10-14, $5 million for 15-17, $5.5 million for 18-20 and $6 million for 21 or more.

If the option is exercised, in 2016 he would earn $500,000 each for 20 and 25 games as a pitcher, and $1 million for 30 games as a pitcher.

To clear a roster spot, the Dodgers put right-hander Chris Withrow on the 60-day disabled list.
