Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias left Friday's spring training game in the fourth inning with a right shin contusion, the team said.

Iglesias injured his shin while sliding into second on a stolen base attempt. The Tigers said the injury was unrelated to the shin issues that sidelined him for the 2014 season. Iglesias missed the entire campaign with stress fractures in both his shins.

"I slid late and I hit it with the wrong spot," Iglesias told the Detroit Free Press. "But I'll be fine. Just a bruise in the bone."

"We gotta be smart," he added. "This is going to happen in the game, especially for me, been a little while, but I'll be fine. Put some ice on it and get ready to train tomorrow."

Iglesias, 25, has hit .274 in parts of three seasons with the Boston Red Sox and Tigers. He finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2013, when he hit .303 in 109 games between Boston and Detroit.
