House, McAllister picked a starters for Indians

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) Zach McAllister and T.J. House earned the final two jobs in the Cleveland Indians' starting rotation.

Manager Terry Francona told the pitchers on Sunday before House started an exhibition against the Chicago White Sox. The left-handed House and McAllister will follow Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco and Trevor Bauer in a rotation the Indians hope can keep them in contention this season.

Kluber will start the opener in Houston on April 6, followed by Carrasco and then Bauer. McAllister is to make his 2015 debut in the home opener against Detroit on April 10.

House went 5-3 with a 3.35 ERA in 18 starts for the Indians last year. McAllister, who made 15 starts, went 4-7 and also pitched in relief. The Indians considered using him out of the bullpen again, but the right-hander earned the starting job with a strong spring.

McAllister had a 3.32 ERA, struck out 24 in 19 innings and had just four walks.

Cleveland also optioned Josh Tomlin and reliever Jeff Manship to Triple-A Columbus. Tomlin had been in the starting mix along with Danny Salazar, who struggled and also was sent to the Clippers.

Francona said right-hander Anthony Swarzak has made the roster and that reliever Austin Adams has been told he could make it depending on how the Indians decide to fill the last roster spot.

The Indians opened training camp with just one starting job available. Gavin Floyd, signed during the offseason, re-injured his elbow, had surgery and is likely to miss the entire season.
