Werth, Rendon, Span, McClouth, Janssen put on DL by Nats

WASHINGTON (AP) Everyday players Jayson Werth, Anthony Rendon and Denard Span, fourth outfielder Nate McLouth and eighth-inning setup man Casey Janssen are among six players put on the 15-day disabled list by the Washington Nationals.

Right-hander Erik Davis also heads to the DL. All of the moves announced Sunday by the Nationals are retroactive to March 27.

In setting the 25-man opening-day roster - Washington starts the season Monday at home against the New York Mets - general manager Mike Rizzo kept second baseman Dan Uggla and reserve outfielders Reed Johnson, Matt den Dekker and Clint Robinson, all new to the team.

Johnson's contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

Xavier Cedeno made the club as a second left-handed reliever, joining Matt Thornton. Rich Hill, another candidate, was sent to the minors Saturday.
