Rays put Loney on disabled list with strained right oblique

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Tampa Bay Rays first baseman James Loney has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique,

The move was announced before Wednesday's game against Baltimore. Loney was hurt during batting practice Tuesday.

Tampa Bay selected the contract of first baseman Allan Dykstra from Triple-A Durham.

The Rays cleared room on the 40-man roster for Dykstra by recalling pitcher Burch Smith from Durham and putting him on the 60-day DL. Smith had season-ending elbow ligament replacement surgery Tuesday.
