Giants sign Kevin Correia to minor-league deal

The San Francisco Giants Tuesday signed Kevin Correia to a minor league deal, according to a report Andrew Baggarly that was later verified by CBS Sports.

The 33-year-old is likely to begin the season in extended spring training before being assigned to Triple A Sacramento.

Correia had previously pitched in spring training with the Seattle Mariners, who released him on March 30.

Correia spent time in 2014 with the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He went 7-17 with a combined 5.44 ERA over 26 starts.

The financial details of Tuesday's contract were not disclosed. Correia had previously signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Twins that expired at the end of last season.

The signing signals Correia's possible return to a Giants uniform. San Francisco drafted him in the fourth round of the 2002 MLB draft, and Correia spent his first six major league seasons with the team.
