ATLANTA (AP) The Braves have designated right-hander Juan Jaime for assignment and selected the contract of right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Jaime walked four while getting four outs in his first two games. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Monday the move was made because ''you need somebody in the game who throws strikes.''

Jaime was the loser in Sunday's 4-3 defeats to the Mets. He issued three walks, one intentional, before he was pulled.

Jaime was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA. Gonzalez says the Braves would like to keep Jaime if he clears waivers.

Gonzalez says right-hander Cody Martin will pitch later in games and Marimon will be available for long relief.

The 26-year-old Marimon will be making his major league debut.
