Red Sox activate closer Koji Uehara (hamstring) from DL
Boston Red Sox closer Koji Uehara was activated from the disabled list before Monday's home opener against the Washington Nationals, the team announced. Veteran reliever Tommy Layne was sent to Triple A Pautucket in a corresponding move.
Uehara began the season on the DL with a strained hamstring. He pitched one inning for Class A Greenville on Saturday.
"He feels, I think, an increase in confidence after full-game intensity," Farrell told reporters Sunday, according to MLB.com. "Everything points to him rejoining us [Monday]."

Edward Mujica served as Boston's closer while Uehara was injured. He gave up a game-tying to home run to the Yankees' Chase Headley in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday, though the Red Sox won that game in 19 innings.
Uehara, 40, signed a two-year contract with the Red Sox in October. He has been Boston's closer for the past two seasons, compiling 47 saves.
