Jonathan Papelbon becomes Phillies' saves leader on throw-out at home

Jonathan Papelbon became the Philadelphia Phillies all-time saves leader Wednesday night in an unusual fashion, closing out the game on a fly-out, throw-'em-out-at-home double play.

Jonathan Papelbon became the Philadelphia Phillies all-time saves leader Wednesday night in an unusual fashion, with his team closing out the game on a fly-out, throw-'em-out-at-home double play. 

With one out in the ninth inning, Pittsburgh's Jordy Mercer flew out to rightfield. When Pirates' infielder Steve Lombardozzi tried to tag from third and score, Ruiz threw him out at home plate with a strike.

Papelbon was previously tied with Jose Mesa for the all-time lead with 112 saves as a Philly. The save preserved a 3–2 Philadelphia win that improved the team to 12–23 on the season.
