Chicago Cubs prospect Javier Baez will be out for four to eight weeks after breaking his finger in a Triple A game on Sunday, according to MLB.com.

Baez suffered a non-displaced fracture of his left ring finger while sliding head-first into second base on a steal attempt in Sunday's game with the Iowa Cubs. He had been batting .314 with eight home runs and seven doubles in 36 games. He missed about a month at the start of the season when he was placed on bereavement leave following the death of his sister.

Baez made his major-league debut last season and batted .169 with nine home runs and 20 RBIs in 52 games. He played 30 games at shortstop and 25 at second base. He recently began playing third base in Triple A.

Baez did not make the team out of spring training and saw two of his Iowa teammates—Addison Russell and Kris Bryant—called up to the majors before him.
