Hardy has go-ahead hit in 9th, Orioles beat Blue Jays 13-9

TORONTO (AP) In a game overflowing with offense, J.J. Hardy had to wait a little while to get involved.

When he did, he made his contributions count.

Hardy drove in the tying run with a single in the seventh inning, then hit a go-ahead single in a four-run ninth as the Baltimore Orioles recovered after blowing a seven-run lead to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 13-9 on Sunday.

''He was able to get two huge hits for us today,'' teammate Ryan Flaherty said.

Jimmy Paredes hit a three-run homer and Chris Davis added a solo shot as the Orioles used 16 hits to improve to 13-4 since June 4.

''The ball was flying,'' Hardy said. ''Luckily we came out on top in the end.''

Davis and pinch-hitter Nolan Reimold drew consecutive walks against Brett Cecil (1-4) with one out in the ninth before Hardy grounded an RBI single to center that eluded shortstop Jose Reyes, who thought second baseman Munenori Kawasaki was going to make the play.

''I got a little bit confused,'' Reyes said. ''That's no excuse. That should be into the double play there and Cecil would be out of the inning.''

Flaherty followed with a two-run triple and scored on a two-out single by Manny Machado.

Darren O'Day (4-0) got two outs to win for the second straight day.

The Blue Jays rallied from a 7-0 deficit to take a 9-7 lead on Jose Bautista's two-run homer in the fourth, but couldn't hold on. Toronto fell to 14-5 in June.

Paredes hit a three-run homer as the Orioles chased Scott Copeland with seven hits and seven runs in the second. Baltimore starter Chris Tillman, however, gave most of it back in the bottom half.

Ezequiel Carrera hit a three-run homer and Kevin Pillar also went deep as the Blue Jays went back-to-back for the fourth time. Tillman left after Reyes doubled and was replaced by Tommy Hunter. Josh Donaldson walked to load the bases before Bautista hit a two-run single, cutting it to 7-6.

Toronto tied it on Pillar's RBI single in the third, then went ahead on Bautista's homer off Brad Brach.

Davis cut it to 9-8 by connecting off Phil Coke in the fifth.

Baltimore tied it in the seventh when Travis Snider's hit to center skipped past Pillar and rolled to the wall for a triple. Steve Delabar replaced Aaron Loup and gave up an RBI single to Hardy.

''J.J.'s two-out hit kind of knocked a little wind back into us and maybe a little from them,'' Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.

Both starters got just four outs in the shortest start of the season for each. Copeland allowed seven runs and eight hits, while Tillman gave up six runs and six hits.

Tillman is 0-3 with a 15.00 ERA in four starts against the Blue Jays this season.

The Blue Jays put the potential go-ahead run at second with one out in the eighth but O'Day, who escaped a bases-loaded jam Saturday, came on and struck out Donaldson, walked Bautista, then got Edwin Encarnacion to foul out.

Showalter earned his 1,295th win, tying Cap Anson for 32nd place.

Baltimore won a game in which it allowed nine runs for the first time since July 20, 2010, against Tampa Bay.

Following the game, the Blue Jays optioned Copeland, Coke and RHP Ryan Tepera to Triple-A Buffalo. They'll call up three players before Monday's game at Tampa Bay.

Orioles: CF Adam Jones, who started at DH on Friday and Saturday, was held out of the lineup. Jones sat out three games last week after injuring his right shoulder diving for a ball on Monday. ... RHP Miguel Gonzalez (right groin) allowed two runs and four hits over five innings in a rehab start for Double-A Bowie on Saturday. He's expected to start Thursday at Boston.

Blue Jays: RHP Aaron Sanchez (strained back muscle) will throw Monday for the first time since going on the disabled list last weekend, retroactive to June 6. Sanchez has missed his past three turns.

Orioles: Baltimore is off Monday before opening a three-game series at Boston on Tuesday. RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (5-3, 3.27 ERA) starts against RHP Joe Kelly (2-4, 5.32). Jimenez has won his past two outings and has not lost since May 16 against the Angels, a span of six starts.

Blue Jays: RHP Drew Hutchison (6-1, 5.33) starts the opener of a three-game series at Tampa Bay on Monday. Hutchison has a 9.46 ERA in seven road starts. RHP Matt Andriese (2-1, 3.26) pitches for the Rays.
