NEW YORK (AP) Mets pitcher Derrick Bernard and free agent Christopher R. Perez have been suspended 50 games each for violating baseball's minor league drug program.

The commissioner's office says both right-handers had a second positive test for a drug of abuse. The penalties were announced Wednesday.

Bernard is on the roster of the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Mets. His punishment will begin when the 62-game suspension he received last August runs out.

Perez's suspension will take effect when he signs with another major league organization.
