Harper, Rendon out of Nats lineup against Braves

WASHINGTON (AP) Nationals star right fielder Bryce Harper is out of Thursday's lineup a day after suffering what he termed a leg cramp.

Infielder Anthony Rendon is also getting a day off because of soreness in his left quadriceps.

Manager Matt Williams said both could pinch hit against the Atlanta Braves, and wouldn't say if Harper was in fact injured.

''We're not going to delve into the intricacies of any of that right now,'' Williams said. ''They're both getting a day off. They're both available off the bench. That's as far as we'll go with it.''

Harper doubled and scored the winning run in the Nationals' 2-1, 11th-inning victory over the Braves on Wednesday night, but grabbed the back of his right leg after his extra-base hit.

Williams and an athletic trainer visited Harper and he remained in the game. Harper scored on Ian Desmond's sacrifice fly.

He told reporters after the game that he had suffered a cramp, but Williams after the game said Harper would be looked at again Thursday.

Harper also missed last Friday's game with a mild left hamstring strain that he hurt the night before when he slipped while making a throw on slick outfield grass.

Rendon returned from the disabled list on June 4 after missing the first two months of the season with left knee and oblique injuries.

Williams said Rendon's current injury is not the same one.

''It's nothing in the knee,'' he said. ''He's had a little bit of an issue with a quad that he's been playing with.''
